Artist Statement
I grew up surrounded by an artistic environment, my grandfather was a classical musician, my father was an outstanding local artist his commercial work was based in southwest subjects but his non-commercial work was strongly influenced by the great master painters between other traditional arts.
The strong influence of my father taste for the classic painting help me study some traditional techniques like the Chiaro/Oscuro and the study of color. My Mexican heritage marked my work style and the use of bright colors and robust strokes used by some Mexican muralists. I rarely like to get comfortable with one style of painting I challenge myself constantly to explore art in a progressive approach represented in metaphorical forms. The contradictions of living in the border and the hostile nature of this area awaked my curiosity and creativity to develop particular local expressions throughout a series of social& political allegorical criticism.
The combination and contradictions of the real and sometimes surreal living conditions of this two border cities enriched my perception of ironic symbolism expressed in my colors, forms, and stories to form my own conceptual world. In my art work I convey to formulate strong statements of life concepts Interpreted in forms and colors, applying them primarily to painting, and occasionally to other two dimensional and three dimensional media. The inspiration comes constantly from the particular living conditions of this border towns, the social problems, the nature, the landscape, the culture, and the surreal perils of living in two worlds of diverse realities.
